An Open Message To ALL Michigan State Officials….

 

My son.  

Autism.  

He will be 26 this year and aged out of services. He is a victim of the de minimus standard, “graduated” from Grand Rapids Public Schools with a certificate of completion that no college or employer will recognize in place of a diploma.  He has been working on the GED for the last 5 years, passed his science module.  We have been fighting to get him social security benefits; he has been turned down every time.  We had to get him an attorney to represent him at an upcoming appeal hearing.  He works a part time job as a dishwasher and attends classes through KISD; this is his final year.

His needs - and those of thousands of other special needs adults - don’t end just because he turns 26.  

Every elected Michigan official needs to hear this message.  Links to find your state representatives and senators can be found in the right side of my postings.

Instituting “May Issue” A Little At A Time….

Once more, using an emergency - actual or contrived - to infringe on a Constitutionally protected (both state and US Constitutions) right.

First, an emergency that results in diminished law enforcement services, as has been the case during the pandemic, DEMANDS that citizens have INCREASED ability to protect themselves.

Second, setting aside the Constitutional considerations, the decision of county clerks to refuse to process cpl applications is a violation of Michigan law, MCL  123.1102, “A local unit of government shall not impose special taxation on, enact or enforce any ordinance or regulation pertaining to, or regulate in any other manner the ownership, registration, purchase, sale, transfer, transportation, or possession of pistols, other firearms, or pneumatic guns, ammunition for pistols or other firearms, or components of pistols or other firearms, except as otherwise provided by federal law or a law of this state.”  A clerk may not unilaterally set aside state firearms laws, regardless of their motivation for doing so.

Third, Whitmer’s argument that cpl applications somehow require in-person interactions that endanger clerks and their staffs is disingenuous.  The entire process can be accomplished online, research can be conducted remotely.  Anyone with a computer or a smartphone, including the so-called “Obama phones”, can complete the application process without ever darkening the door of a clerk’s office; the cpl is mailed to the applicant upon completion.

Whitmer’s veto is without any basis in fact.  It represents an effort to enact a de facto “may issue” standard using an emergency as pretext.

An Open Letter to Michigan Gov. Whitmer....

Gov. Whitmer: the temper tantrum ends.  

Now.

You LIED when you told Michigan voters Before the election that you had no plans to seek a $.27/gallon gas tax, then turned around AFTER the election and tried to implement a $.47/gallon gas tax.  This tax is COMPLETELY UNSUPPORTED by Michigan taxpayers, the legislature knew it, and they denied the tax increase you demanded.

So in true tyrannical fashion, you took your rage out on those Michigan citizens who cannot defend themselves - school students and the disabled.

You denied Michigan public charter school students a much-needed funding increase while increasing funding for traditional public schools.  Let’s be perfectly clear: you didn’t tell what you claim to be “for-profit corporations” they don’t deserve funding (most public charter schools are NOT run by for-profit corporations), you told school children and their families - many of them low income - that THEY don’t deserve funding because you personally disagree with the idea of public charter schools.

You completely de-funded Michigan’s autistic citizens.

This is tyranny.  And it ends - NOW.
