In 2021, Gentex, “a technology company and long-time supplier of electro-optical products for the global automotive, aerospace and fire protection industries,” implemented exclusive Spanish language only production lines “to provide expanded employment opportunities for West Michigan’s growing Hispanic community… over 230 Spanish-speaking employees work on various production lines throughout the company.”
Regardless of the nobility of the intent, this constitutes blatant discrimination in hiring and promotion in violation of existing Equal Employment Opportunity laws. Exclusive Spanish language only lines means speakers of other languages, regardless of how well qualified they might be, are excluded from employment opportunities that have, by definition, been reserved exclusively for Spanish speakers.
They say wrong is wrong, regardless of intent.
This is wrong. And likely illegal.
